Piece of CAke

An elderly baker cooks up a sinister plan. But what should have been a piece of cake, becomes a very sticky affair...

This short is a true passion project. It is loosely the third instalment of a series of short comedy sketches set in everyday working class environments, each containing mundane performances but with a splash of surreal abstract comedy - and of course some sort of confectionary at the heart.

The previous two chapters 'Jammy Fingers' and 'Butter Fingers' were very much comedy sketches. This time, we wanted to up the stakes, and create a more developed world for the characters and story to evolve within.

I also believe that Northern and working class filmmaking is often seen as having to represent social struggle, or having to portray immense difficulties which people experience. Those voices are important and vital. However what I've tried to do with this film is to just make something entertaining, frivolous and fun.
